Free from the hustle and bustle of nearby Benidorm, holidays in Javea are ideal for families and couples keen to experience a more authentic taste of Spain’s Costa Blanca. Blessed with more days of sunshine than any other place in Spain, a spectacular coastline location and top quality beaches, Javea holidays live long in the memory.
With 320 days of annual sunshine, holidays in Javea are a great opportunity to top up a suntan by the side of the pool or at one of the resort’s beaches. Javea’s most popular beach is Arenal, a 300m stretch of soft golden sand awarded Blue Flag status for its excellent facilities, cleanliness and water quality. The beach benefits from a gentle slope in to the sea and calm waters that young swimmers can safely enjoy. Although the beach can get busy by the early afternoon, Playa del Arenal is a must visit during a holiday to Javea.
A leisurely stroll down Javea’s palm tree lined seafront esplanade is a pleasant way to spend a holiday afternoon. Serviced by a number of bars and cafes, the seafront is an idyllic setting for a cool drink and tasty snack whilst watching the gentle swell of the Mediterranean. In the summer months, a miniature locomotive offers train rides along the length of the promenade, up to the port and in to the old town – a winner with kids both big and little.
Javea’s bustling port area is a focal point of the seaside resort, with an active fishing industry and moorings for over 350 yachts and sailboats. Visitors can observe the local fishing vessels ferrying their daily catch to the harbour and even purchase the freshly caught seafood at the nearby fish market. The port area also has an assortment of open terrace restaurants, local bars and a cinema to while away the hours on a Javea holiday.
By evening, Javea’s seafront area is the scene for much of the resort’s nightlife. Although not the liveliest nightspot on the Costa Blanca, Javea has a tidy collection of bars and clubs offering karaoke, live music and entertainment in to the early hours. At various times during the year, Javea hosts raucous fiestas with fireworks, street parades, bull running and bonfires – an unforgettable holiday experience for those lucky enough to participate. In the summer months, visitors can enjoy live performances by authentic flamenco groups at a number of venues in the area.
Javea’s historic town centre is a labyrinth of narrow streets, whitewashed buildings and ornate porticoes waiting to be explored. Visitors should take the time to observe the fortified gothic church of San Bartolome that dates back to the 15th century, peruse the nearby indoor market with its assortment of cheeses and wines and enjoy a leisurely drink in one of the town squares.
For adventurous and energetic travellers, a hike up the Montgo Mountain is a holiday experience to remember. There are four main routes up the mountain from Javea, the easiest of which takes approximately 4 hours. When reaching the mountain’s summit, hikers are rewarded with spectacular views of the town’s lush green landscape rolling out to the distant cliffs and coves that edge the crystal blue Mediterranean. On clear days, the Balearic Islands can be spotted far off in the distance.
